Trees Tell Us Stories

Did you know that the inside of a tree has rings? These rings tell us different facts about the tree like how old it is and how fast it grew.

1. Gather the following materials; pencils, paper, a magnifying glass, and a ruler.
2. With an adult, go for a walk and find a tree stump or a big log that has fallen down.
3. Find the rings in the tree and notice some things about them.  How many rings can you count? Can you measure the distance between them?
