After celebrations have ended, rather than throwing away these plants, see if your city provides pickup and recycling options. Sometimes cities will compost the trees or create mulch - which is something that can help other plants grow. Maybe they even use trees in the park as safe spaces for birds and small animals to take cover out of harsh weather. Research what your city does and encourage others to keep trees out of landfills.
